UPTOWN — A man who was shot multiple times in Uptown this weekend is likely an associate of slain Rogers Park rapper Young Pappy, whose Twitter account posted well-wishes referring to the victim as "my big brother" late Monday morning.

A 24-year-old man, who has documented gang ties, was taken to Weiss Hospital around 12:45 p.m. Sunday with multiple gunshot wounds in his right side, police said.

The shooting occurred in the 1200 block of West Ainslie Street, near a Chicago Public Library branch and  National Car Wash.

The Twitter account of Young Pappy, whose real name was Shaquon Thomas, has been updated frequently since the 20-year-old was fatally shot May 29. The account frequently posts messages from Thomas' perspective, but it is unclear who has operated the account since the rapper's death.

On Monday @PappyNotPapi tweeted a message of support for the Uptown shooting victim, identifying him as Thomas' "Big Brother"

Young Pappy was a known gang member who frequently taunted rival gangs on social media, potentially inciting violence in Rogers Park and adjacent neighborhoods, police said around the time of his death.

Earlier this year, police said the rapper was the target of two shootings since 2014 that left innocent bystanders William Lewis, 28, and Markeyo Carr, 17, dead.
