Man Shot Dead on Rogers Park-Edgewater Border

CHICAGO — A man was shot to death along the border of Edgewater and Rogers Park Saturday afternoon, police said.

The man, 28, was shot about 3:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of West Devon Avenue, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokeswoman.

He was standing in the street when someone approached him on foot and fired. The shooter then fled the scene, Pacheco said.

The man, identified as William Lewis of the 4700 block of North Hermitage Avenue, was taken in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 3:58 p.m., authorities said. 

Area North detectives are investigating.
