2 Killed, 8 Hurt in Shootings Since Saturday Morning: Police

CHICAGO — A 16-year-old boy was killed and nine other people were hurt in shootings in the South and West Side since Saturday morning, police said.

The teen died after being shot alongside another boy in Chatham early Sunday morning, according to Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Later, a 19-year-old man was shot in his hand while driving in Humboldt Park, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

• In the most recent shooting, about 4:45 a.m. Sunday, a 52-year-old man was sleeping in his car in the 9100 block of South Anthony Avenue when he heard gunshots and felt pain, Estrada said.

The man was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was in stable condition after being treated for a gunshot wound in his ear, Estrada said.

• At 4:05 a.m., a 28-year-old man and a 30-year-old man were standing in the 3300 block of West Walnut Street in East Garfield Park when a man walked up and shot at them, Estrada said.

The 28-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound in his head, Estrada said. The 30-year-old was also brought to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in stable condition with a gunshot wound in his left thigh.

Police said both men are documented gang members.

• About two hours earlier, a 24-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were standing on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of West 59th Street in Englewood when someone walked up and shot at them, Greer said.

The woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was in stable condition with a gunshot wound in her back, Greer said.

The man was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was in stable condition with a gunshot wound in his back, Greer said.

• At 11:05 p.m. Saturday night, a 44-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 6000 block of South Throop Avenue in Englewood when someone jumped out of a black SUV and shot at him, Greer said.

The man was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in critical condition with gunshot wounds in his hand and his back, Greer said.

Adrian Jeffried, of Holland, Mich., was later pronounced dead, according to Cook County Medical Examiners.

• Around 6 p.m. Saturday, a 26-year-old man was driving a car stopped in traffic in the 5500 block of South Shields Avenue in Englewood when another car pulled alongside him and someone inside fired shots, Greer said.

The man drove himself to Saint Bernard Hospital and was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound in his back, Greer said.
