CHATHAM — A 16-year-old boy is dead and a 17-year-old is hurt after a shooting in Chatham early Sunday morning, police said.

Around 1 a.m., the teens were standing on the sidewalk in the 8200 block of South Ingleside Avenue when someone walked up and shot at them, according to Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The 16-year-old was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition with a gunshot wound in his chest, Greer said. Doctors later pronounced him dead.

The 17-year-old was also brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was in stable condition with a gunshot wound in his leg, Greer said.

Police said the 17-year-old is a documented gang member.

The shooting occurred about a block away from the house where 28-year-old Latoya Jackson was found dead alongside her three children last month.

No one is in custody for the shooting, Greer said.
