One Dead, Eight Wounded Since Tuesday Morning

CHICAGO — One person is dead and another six were wounded in shootings overnight, police said.

The fatal shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon on the Near West Side and left a 40-year-old man dead.

Other incidents include:

• Most recently, a man was shot in the 9700 block of South Ewing Avenue around 6 a.m. Wednesday, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman citing preliminary information. Further details were not available.

• Around 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, a 38-year-old man was shot in his arm and leg in the 2000 block of North New England Avenue in Galewood. He was taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokesman.

• Around 2:06 a.m. Wednesday, a 38-year-old man was shot in Humboldt Park.

• Around 12:20 a.m., a 15-year-old boy was shot multiple times while walking in the 6300 block of South Artesian Avenue in Chicago Lawn, Pacheco said. The teen was shot in his face, armpit and shoulder. He was taken to Christ Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Pacheco said.

• Around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, a 21-year-old woman was shot while sitting with a group on a porch in the 8100 block of South Burnham Avenue in South Chicago and someone opened fire from a light-colored SUV, Pacheco said.

She was taken to Christ Hospital, where her condition is stabilized, Pacheco said.

• Two men were shot while pumping gas at a gas station in the 300 block of South Cicero Avenue in Austin when shots were fired from a passing car around 8:58 p.m. Tuesday. As the car sped away it struck a 14-year-old girl on a bike, Pacheco said.

The girl was taken to Loretto Hospital, where she was treated and released. A 21-year-old man was shot in his right arm and right leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A 20-year-old man was also shot in his leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Pacheco said.

• Around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, a 15-year-old boy was approached and questioned about his gang affiliation by a group of men in the 5800 block of South Troy Avenue in Gage Park. The group then shot him in his leg and he waited in the 5600 block of South Kedzie Avenue for emergency crews, Pacheco said.

He was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition. A person of interest was being questioned by detectives, Pacheco said.
