LINCOLN PARK — A man with a knife robbed the Blues Jean Bar clothing store in Lincoln Park Monday afternoon, getting away with cash, police said.

At 2:42 p.m., a man walked into the small retail store in the 2100 block of North Halsted Street and started browsing, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man then walked to the cashier, pulled out a knife and demanded cash. The worker complied and the man left with an unknown amount of money, Sweeney said.

Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) sent an email alert Tuesday morning citing multiple reported daylight robberies at stores along Halsted.

"...at my urging, the 18th District Police Commander has instituted an increased presence along the Armitage/Halsted corridor, including a dedicated foot patrol and an additional car to the area in the afternoon," Smith said in the email.

Smith said summer "creates more opportunities for crime."

Monday's robbery at the store fits the pattern of several other retail store robberies, including the nearby Londo Mondo on May 13, ABC7 reported, citing a source.
