12 Killed, At Least 41 Wounded in Holiday Weekend Violence

CHICAGO — Shootings over Memorial Day Weekend left 12 people dead and at least 41 wounded.

From Monday morning until Tuesday morning, three people were killed and another 12 were wounded in shootings.

Around 7:50 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot to death in the 4900 block of West Erie Street in Austin. About two hours earlier, a 19-year-old man was fatally shot in Bronzeville.

Monday afternoon, a 29-year-old man was fatally shot while riding in a car in the 4100 block of North Hamlin Avenue in Irving Park.

Most recently in non-fatal shootings, a 47-year-old woman was shot in Austin after in argument with her boyfriend, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, the woman was grazed in her leg in the 4800 block of West Madison Street. She was treated on the scene and released, Cooper said.

Also early Tuesday, a 34-year-old man was shot in South Shore.

Elsewhere, a 20-year-old man was shot while sitting on a porch with a group of people in Austin. The 20-year-old was in the 1400 block of North Lotus Avenue when shots were fired from a light-colored sedan, Cooper said.

The man was struck in his foot and taken to Stroger Hospital in an unknown condition, Cooper said.

No one is in custody and the car was last seen fleeing southbound on Lotus Avenue, Cooper said.

Monday

Around 10:40 p.m., a 25-year-old man was approached by another man whom he had argued with earlier. The man shot him in his chest in the 6500 block of South Normal Avenue in Englewood, Cooper said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Cooper said.

Around 10:10 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot by someone in a passing car as he stood in the 6600 block of North Clark Street in Rogers Park. He was shot in his right foot and taken to St. Francis Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Cooper said.

Two men were shot in North Lawndale when four men opened fire from a gangway in the 1500 block of South Ridgeway Avenue around 9:55 p.m., Cooper said.

A 32-year-old man was shot in his torso and was listed in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. A 39-year-old man was shot in both legs and his groin. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Cooper said.

Around 8:42 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in his buttocks while in the 5600 block of West Division Street in Austin. He was taken to West Suburban Hospital in good condition, Cooper said.

Around 7 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot by someone in a dark van while riding his motorcycle in the 5900 block of South Laflin Avenue in Englewood. After being shot in his thigh, he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Cooper said

Around 11:30 p.m., a 22-year-old man walked into Mount Sinai after being shot in his foot while in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt Road. His condition was stabilized, Cooper said.

Around the same time in North Lawndale, a 17-year-old boy was shot while riding his bike in the 1600 block of South Springfield Avenue. He was shot in his right thigh and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, Cooper said.

Around 4:30 a.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in his left arm, left forearm and right forearm while in the 10800 block of South Avenue N on the Far South Side. He was taken to St. Margaret Hospital in Indiana, where his condition was stabilized, Cooper said.

From Sunday night into early Monday, three people were killed and six people were wounded in shootings.

From Saturday into Sunday, four people were killed and eight people were wounded in shootings.

From Friday night into Saturday, two people were killed and another 15 were wounded in shootings.
