COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Three good Samaritans caught and held a 19-year-old man after he stole a woman's purse in Lakeview Monday night, prosecutors said.

Jaleel Johnson, 19, told police that voices in his head tell him what to do, and that he'd followed the 21-year-old victim for several blocks before attacking, according to an arrest report.

The teen is currently on juvenile parole for robbery and burglary, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during a bond hearing Tuesday.

Johnson is accused of following the victim into her apartment building in the 3100 block of North Southport Avenue just before 10 p.m. Monday, pushing her to the ground and stealing her purse.

Three men who saw the attack chased Johnson through a gangway and caught up with him in the parking lot of Schubas Tavern, 3159 N. Southport Ave., according to police.

When officers arrived, the arrest report said, they found the woman's purse laying on the ground. Her wallet, which contained cash, credit cards and her ID, was inside Johnson's pants pocket.

Johnson, of the 6900 block of South Artesian Avenue, was charged with robbery.

Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered Johnson held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
