CHICAGO — One man is dead and at least seven others were wounded in shootings since Saturday evening, police said.

In Marquette Park, a 26-year-old man was walking in the street after midnight when he was fatally shot in his chest.

In Roseland, an off-duty police officer was seriously injured after two men approached him and fired multiple shots. The officer returned fire, wounding one of the men, police said.

In Uptown, a 19-year-old man walked to the Weiss Memorial hospital after being shot around 5:20 p.m., police said.

• Most recently at 6:23 a.m., a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman walked into Holy Cross Hospital after being shot in Gage Park, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man and woman were passengers in a vehicle in the 5900 block of South Kedzie Avenue when a black truck opened fire, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was shot in his lower back and the woman was shot in her leg and lower back, Zala said.

The woman was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital where her condition had stabilized, and the man remained at Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, Zala said.

• Several hours earlier at 10:15 p.m. in West Englewood, a 27-year-old man was driving northbound in the 6400 block of South Wood Street when a dark-colored van pulled up alongside and fired shots, striking the man in his upper back and left arm. He was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital for treatment, Estrada said.

• A few blocks away at 10 p.m., a man was playing with a handgun inside a home in the 6200 block of South Wood Street when he shot his 20-year-old friend in his hip. The 20-year-old was taken to Stroger where his condition had stabilized, Estrada said.
