CHICAGO — Two men are being questioned after an off-duty police officer was shot early Sunday in Roseland, police said.

Around 5:10 a.m., a 56-year-old off-duty police officer was getting out of his car in the 300 block of West 103rd Place when he was approached by two men, and at least one of the men opened fire on the officer, striking him in his arm and leg, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The officer was able to fire back, striking one of the men, Estrada said.

The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition.

A short time later, two men were located in the 9900 block of South Princeton Avenue. One of the men had a recent gunshot wound and was also taken to Avocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, Estrada said.

According to police, the two men have not been arrested but are being questioned as people of interest in the early-morning shooting.

According to the Sun-Times, the man shot was an off-duty Oak Park police officer.
