ROGERS PARK — Col. Jennifer Pritzker plans to tear down and develop the Morse Avenue strip mall across the street from her Mayne Stage and Act One Pub, 49th Ward Ald. Joe Moore said.
"They’re going to do another quality development," said Moore, referring to Tawani Enterprises, which manages the billionaire's real estate holdings. "That’ll just continue to spur confidence in the street."
Former building owner James Yoo sold the single-story mall at 1313 W. Morse Ave. to a Tawani company earlier this month for $3.08 million, according to property records.
Friday morning, one of Pritzker's executives also confirmed the news.
"Yes, we have purchased the property, and we look forward to developing something that meets the needs of the community and Tawani, and quality will always be part of the equation," said Sean McGowan, Tawani's chief operating officer.
Tawani has also built a high-end condo building directly to the west of the Mayne Stage and is nearly done with a 250-car parking garage on Sheridan Road.
Moore said there was not a final decision on the type of development that would be built.
The final tenants of the prominent strip mall moved out earlier this year. Last December, Yoo closed Mor-Way Laundromat, the largest store in the strip mall, and took out all of the washers and dryers.
Moore said the new development could include parking for Tawani's other properties.
