LAKEVIEW — Though 6 inches of snow fell on Chicago overnight, and up to 16 inches was expected by Monday morning, some Chicagoans were unfazed by Sunday's blizzard.

"Business as usual," said Malika Donald, 48, of Uptown, who was running errands. "It's Chicago; if you live here, you have to deal with it. And, it's actually not that cold today."

Kylie Zavadil, 25, of the West Loop, agreed.

"This is nothing compared to 'Snowpocalypse' when we got 3 or 4 feet of snow. It's pretty tame," Zavadil said, referring to the massive blizzard that hit almost four years ago to the day.

Zavadil originally planned to watch the Super Bowl with a friend, but plans changed after his flight was canceled.

"I guess I have to come up with something else to do," he said.

The National Weather Service said Chicago could see as much as 16 inches of snow by the time a blizzard warning expires at 10 a.m. Monday. That's in addition to waves as high as 16 feet and blinding snow.

On Sunday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel gathered department heads to discuss their response to the year's first major snowfall.

"Streets are to be plowed and passable, and folks are to be safe and secure," he said. Plows are expected to hit side streets Sunday evening, said Streets and Sanitation commissioner Charles Williams.

Like Zavadil and Donald, Lisa Lefevre, 30, shrugged off the snowfall.

"The weather is affecting what I'm going to wear more than my plans," said Lefevre, of Lakeview. " I can't wear these boots where I'm going."

Despite a change in plans, Maria Kipp, 38, of Lakeview, her husband, Todd, and her children, Tatum and Truman welcomed the fresh powder.

"We were supposed to go to a school talent show at Sacred Heart, but that got canceled," Kipp said as she pulled her children on sleds. "I grew up in Iowa, and we just loved the first major snowfall. It's so much fun."

Brandon Fox, 29, of Uptown, was unwavering in his plans.

"I'm going to see family and friends, and watch the Super Bowl. A little snow isn't going to change that," he said.
