Three Dead, 20 Wounded in Weekend Violence

CHICAGO — Gun-related violence this weekend took three lives and wounded 20 people throughout the city.

Sunday evening, an 18-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were wounded in separate shootings. In the most recent shooting, the man was grazed in his chin just before 10 p.m. in the Heart of Chicago, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Around 9:55 p.m., the man was standing on the sidewalk in the 2200 block of West 18th Place when another man walked up to him and opened fire. The 18-year-old was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, Pacheco said.

The man is a documented gang member and no one is in custody for the shooting, Pacheco said.

About two hours earlier, a 26-year-old woman was shot in the Lawless Garden Apartments in Douglas.

Around 7:40 p.m., the woman was shot in her head while inside an apartment in the 3500 block of South Rhodes Avenue, Pacheco said.

The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Pacheco said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.

Earlier Sunday, four people were shot including two teenage boys.

Saturday night, a 50-year-old man was shot in Humboldt Park and a 24-year-old man were shot in South Austin.

Saturday afternoon, two people were shot during a drive-by shooting in Back of the Yards and a man was shot outside a Gresham Walgreens.

From Friday night into Saturday, Arturo Olivera of Glenview was found fatally shot in his car in West Garfield Park and Afernee Durant, 19, of the 7800 block of South Loomis Avenue was fatally shot during a drive-by shooting in Gresham. Nine other people were shot overnight.

Friday, 18-year-old Tyree Harris was fatally shot in Marquette Park.
