At Least Two Dead, Nine Wounded in Shootings

CHICAGO — Two men were killed and at least nine other people were wounded by gunfire throughout the city since Friday evening, police said.

A man was found dead in his vehicle after being shot multiple times in West Garfield Park Saturday. A 19-year-old man died after being shot in his leg in Gresham Friday. 

In the most recent shooting, a man was shot in 0-100 block of East Chicago Avenue, on the the Near North Side, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

At 6:05 a.m., the man was arguing with someone else when he was shot in the abdomen she said. No more information was available.

• In West Garfield Park at 5:30 a.m., a 27-year-old man was in the 100 block of South Kostner Avenue, when he was shot in his buttocks during a robbery. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody, and Area North detectives are investigating.

• At 2:30 a.m. in Hermosa, a man, 23, was sitting in a vehicle in the 4300 block of West Cortland Street when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired multiple shots, striking the man in the back of the head, Sedevic said.

He was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center and then transferred to Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said.

Police and fire officials did not know the condition of the victim.

• Thirty minutes earlier in the Near West Side at 2 a.m., a 21-year-old man walking near an alley in the 100 block of North Aberdeen Street when a purple van pulled up and someone inside started shooting, Sedevic said.

The man was shot in his torso and taken to Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said. Officials did not know the man's condition.

No one is in custody, and Area Central detectives are investigating.

• In New City at 10:20 p.m. Friday, two women were walking in the 4400 block of South Marshfield Avenue, when a dark-colored SUV drove up and someone inside fired shots. An unknown man stepped out of the vehicle and yelled "Saint Killer" before fleeing, Sedevic said.

A 21-year-old woman was shot in her hip and taken to Stroger Hospital; police did not know here condition, but said it was stable. A 20-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to her buttocks and thumb but refused medical attention, Sedevic said.

Police said the 21-year-old women is a documented gang member.

• Five minutes earlier in Gresham, a 17-year-old boy was shot in his foot in the 7800 block of South Carpenter Street, Sedevic said.

At 10:15 p.m., the boy was approached by three men, one of whom fired shots, striking him in his foot. He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital; police did not know his condition, but said it was stable, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody, and Area South detectives are investigating.

• In New City at 6:50 p.m., a 20-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 5100 block of South Morgan Street, when he was a approached by someone who who fired shots, Sedevic said.

The man was shot in his hand and taken to Saint Bernard Hospital; police did not know his condition, but said it was stable, Sedevic said.

The victim is a documented gang member police said.

Seven other people were shot across the city Friday.
