By Alex Parker | January 18, 2015 12:27pm

CHICAGO — Two people were beaten and robbed in Lakeview early Sunday by a pair of suspects wielding a screwdriver, police said.

The victims, a 20-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were walking in the 900 block of West Belmont Avenue about 2:20 a.m. when they were approached by two males, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokeswoman.

The robbers displayed a screwdriver and beat the victims before making off with the woman's purse and a cellphone, she said.

Both victims were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in good condition, Pacheco said.

No one is in custody and Area North detectives are investigating.
