CHICAGO — A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized after being struck by a car Saturday evening in Austin.

A 35-year-old man was driving southbound on Pine Avenue when the child ran into the street, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man swerved to avoid the child, striking a parked car and the boy in the 500 block of North Pine Street, Estrada said.

The boy was taken to Loyola Hospital for minor injuries, and his condition stablized, Estrada said.

The driver was cited for failing to reduce speed, Estrada said.
