Man Shot in Thumb in Lakeview Among Five Wounded, Three Dead by Gunfire

CHICAGO — At least five people were injured and three were killed in shootings across the city since Friday night, including a man who was shot in the thumb in Lakeview, police said.

in East Hyde Park, police found a man fatally shot in the head in an apartment in the 5200 block of South Cornell Avenue about 9:50 p.m.

Around 11:30 p.m. Friday, a 24-year-old man was discovered in a car with a gunshot wound in his his head in Austin.

Later around 2:50 a.m. Saturday, two men were shot on the Far South Side. One of them was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

• Most recently around 3:50 a.m. Saturday, a man, whose age is unknown, was shot while driving northbound on Interstate 57 between 99th Street and Halsted Street, according to Illinois State Police.

He sustained non-life threatening injuries, state police said. No other information was immediately available.

• Around 3:15 a.m., a 35-year-old man was shot on the Far South Side. 

The man was stopped at a stop sign in a silver sedan in the 10400 block of South Avenue J when a black SUV pulled up and someone fired shots, striking him in his right calf, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

He is in stable condition after being transported to Trinity Hospital, Pacheco said.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.

• About 15 minutes earlier, a man, 33, was walking with a friend in the 3100 block of East 82nd Street in South Chicago when two Hispanic men got out of a dark-colored SUV and opened fire, striking him in his right thigh, Pacheco said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition, Pacheco said.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.

The North Side shooting took place about 2:15 in Lake View East, when a man, whose age is unknown, was leaving a party in the 2800 block of North Sheridan Road, Pacheco said.

The man's friends dropped him off at St. Mary's Hospital with a gunshot wound in his left thumb, Pacheco said.

He was uncooperative with police, she added.
