CHICAGO — A man was fatally shot late Friday in South Austin. 

Around 11:30 p.m., the man, 24, was found sitting in the driver's side of a car with a gunshot wound in his head in the 200 block of North Mason Avenue, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

He was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 12:08 a.m., authorities said.

He was identified as Jeffrey Daniels, of the 1400 block of West Taylor Street, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member. 

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.
