BOYSTOWN — The Northalsted Halloween Parade is taking its cue from "American Horror Story" this year with a "Freak Show" theme.

From 6-9 p.m. Friday, revelers can expect music, street performers, curiosities and $5 Fireball specials scattered through Boystown. If you're heading over or live in the area, here's everything you'll need to know:

The Parade:

The parade kicks off at 8 p.m. Friday at the corner of Halsted and Belmont. It heads north along Halsted before wrapping up on Addison. It's free to walk in the parade and anyone with a costume is welcome — but you do have to register. Registration will take place near Halsted and Belmont from 5:30-7 p.m.

Costume Contest:

There are five categories this year: pet, scariest, drag, group and original. The best-dressed in each category wins a prize. To compete in the free contest, you'll need to register near Halsted and Belmont from 5:30-7 p.m.

Street Closures:

Halsted Street will be closed between Belmont and Addison from 4-10 p.m. Friday. Sections of the following streets (from Halsted to the nearest alley) will be closed from 6-10 p.m.: Melrose, Aldine, Buckingham, Roscoe, Newport, Cornelia and Brompton.

Parking Restrictions:

There's no parking on the following streets from 2 p.m.-midnight Friday: Halsted from Belmont to Addison, and Roscoe from 800-824 W. Roscoe St. Any cars on the streets after 2 p.m. will be towed.
