LAKEVIEW — A man physically assaulted a woman during a robbery in Lakeview early Wednesday, police said.

The woman, 34, was in the 3300 block of North Lakewood Avenue about 3:05 a.m. when a man approached her from behind, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.

When the woman turned around, the man hit her in the face and took her purse, Zala said. The suspect then ran south on Sheffield Avenue, he said.

The woman was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with minor injuries, Zala said.

The suspect was described as a black man, Zala said. No one is in custody and no other details were available.
