LAKEVIEW — A home invasion on Belmont Avenue turned into a chase Tuesday night after officers spotted one of the alleged robbers at the Montrose "L" stop and the man took off running.

Police collared the man and nabbed an alleged accomplice minutes later. A third suspect was also arrested Tuesday night and accused of helping plan the holdup.

On Wednesday, police charged the trio with two counts each of felony home invasion.

Melvin Wilson, 20 of the first block of North Lavergne Avenue in Austin; Gary Wallace, 21, of the 2300 block of North Kedzie Avenue in Logan Square; and Bryna Wolowic, 20, of the 700 block of Sun Lake Road in suburban Lake Villa, will appear in bond court Thursday.

The incident happened about 6 p.m. Tuesday when a man living in the 1800 block of West Belmont Avenue heard a knock at his apartment door, police said. When he answered, Wilson and Wallace pulled a weapon and rushed him.

They stole three guns — a rifle, a shotgun and a Colt 45. They also made off with cash, electronics and a cellphone.

Shortly after Wilson and Wallace left, police said, Wilson was spotted at the Montrose "L" station. When officers approached, he ran. Police chased Wilson and quickly caught and arrested him.

Police picked up Wallace a short time later in an alley in the 4300 block of North Honore Street, about a half-block from the "L" station.

The victim was able to positively identify both men, police said.

Later Tuesday night, officers arrested Wolowic for her role in planning the robbery, police said.

The victim was not injured in the attack, and all of his belongings were recovered.
