CHATHAM — In recognition of the many elderly people who live in Chatham, a nonprofit organization is sponsoring an outdoor jazz fest especially for senior citizens.

The free jazz concert by the Gathering Point Community Council runs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Brown Memorial Park, 634 E. 86th St., and free food is included.

"All seniors need to bring is a lawn chair and an appetite for smooth jazz sounds," said Richard Wooten, executive director of the council. "If all goes well we would like to host this event every year."

He added that many park events are not geared toward seniors.

"This is our way of giving seniors, especially those that live around the park, a chance to enjoy it," he said.
