CHICAGO — We've got the nation's best hot dog and Mexican food. Now Chicago can claim America's best burger.

Foodie website The Daily Meal has declared Kuma's Corner's Kuma Burger, with its layers of cheddar, bacon and a fried egg, as the country's top beef patty combo.

In naming the country's top 101 burgers, the Daily Meal assembled a list of nearly 200 burgers from across the United States, and combed through existing best-of lists and online reviews. The list, which didn't include nationwide chains, was broken up by region. A panel of 50 "noted writers, journalists, bloggers and culinary authorities" then tallied the final 101.

Also making the final cut: the West Loop's Au Cheval's cheeseburger (29) and the griddled burger from Edzo's (53), which has locations in Lincoln Park and Evanston.

While Kuma's topped the list, New York City burgers had the most entries (15). Other highlights include a burger made with peanut butter in Nashville, cheese-stuffed patties from Minneapolis and a Vegas export called the Double Bypass Burger.
