CHICAGO — Chicagoans know this city is home to the best hot dogs in America. Now, there's a list on the Internet to prove it.

Foodie website The Daily Meal, which named Chicago as home of the best Mexican restaurant as well, found that the city is home to six of the nation's 50 best hot dogs.

The nation's best hot dog is the Mighty Dog, found at Fat Johnnie's Famous Red Hots, 7242 S. Western Ave., in Chicago Lawn. It defended its title from last year.

Fourth place in America went to Hot Doug's Foie Gras & Sauternes Duck Sausage. It will be the last year that the beloved Avondale restaurant, at 3324 N. California Ave., will be featured on the list, as it is slated to close in October. That dog was No. 3 last year.

Other hot dogs featured on The Daily Meal's list are:

• No. 11 The Chicago Dog from Byron's Hot Dog Haus, 1701 W. Lawrence Ave. and 1017 W. Irving Park Road

• No. 14 Double Chardog from The Wiener's Circle, 2622 N. Clark St.

• No. 19 Chicago Dog from Murphy’s Red Hots, 1211 W. Belmont Ave.

• No. 22 Superdawg from Superdawg, 6363 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Last year, we visited some of The Daily Meal's winners. Here's a video of that journey...
