CHICAGO — Police are investigating the stabbing of a man on the lakefront path in Lakeview early Sunday morning.

The victim, 45, was sitting on a bench with another man, 48, at 12:15 a.m. in the 3600 block of North Recreation Drive when they were approached by two other people, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokeswoman.

The two groups began arguing, and the victim and his acquaintance tried to leave. A physical altercation began between the two groups, Pacheco said, and the man was stabbed in the lower back.

The suspects fled the scene, she said.

The two men were transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition. The older man was released, and the victim was kept for monitoring, Pacheco said.

Area North detectives are investigating the incident.
