LAKEVIEW — A popular local coffee roasting company is opening a cafe in Lakeview.

Dark Matter Coffee, born out of Star Lounge in Ukrainian Village, will be opening a cafe on Belmont Avenue near Clifton Avenue, said company partner Carrie Cooper.

The roaster started in 2007 after owner Jessie Diaz decided he only wanted to sell coffee at Star Lounge that he roasted himself, according to the website. Now, Dark Matter coffee can be found at bars, restaurants and farmers markets and festivals across the city.

Dark Matter's Star Lounge, 2521 W. Chicago Ave., was named one of the nation's top 25 coffee shops by Food & Wine magazine. The shop features a long wooden bar, and it describes itself as "the bohemian capital of Chicago's West Side 'third places'."

But the Lakeview location probably will have a slightly different flavor to fit the different neighborhood, Cooper said.

The cafe is set to open in the fall.
