LAKEVIEW — The original Intelligentsia location on North Broadway closed for remodeling Monday and doesn't reopen until April 18th.

The Chicago specialty coffee roaster is remodeling it's 3123 N. Broadway Ave. location to include twice as much seating, founder Doug Zell said in a Facebook post Sunday. It opened 17 years ago and now has seven other locations in Chicago and Los Angeles.

"After a long stretch, we thought we owed you a remodel to bring our original flagship up to date," Zell wrote in the note titled "Rebirth."

On April 17, Intelligentsia will host an "open house" at 6 p.m. to preview the store before officially reopening the next day.

Until then, baristas will be popping up in the neighborhood. Monday, they're in a space south of their flagship location giving out free coffee until 11 a.m., according to Intelligentsia's Twitter account
