If teachers were to strike this year, they would likely walk off in mid-October, according to reports.
The meeting comes amid talk on social media about a plan to restructure schools in the 19th Ward.
"We have a very generous proposal on the table," CPS CEO Forrest Claypool said.
Routes will be added to two more schools, bringing the total number to 142, officials said.
CPS implemented a revamped black history curriculum in 2013, but more needs to be done, some said.
The new school in East Side will help with overcrowding in the area, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.
