Speakers lined up again Monday night to oppose a plan that would merge Kellogg and Sutherland schools.

A forum held Friday night at Sutherland Elementary questioned the merits of a proposed school shake-up.

Ald. George Cardenas called for making students a priority, but others defended their TIF funds.

The $22 million addition addressed overcrowding at one of 12 dual-language Chicago Public Schools.

Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) will host the forum at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Beverly Arts Center.

Rates to go up 30 percent over five years, and more money still will be needed to fund city pensions.

The meeting is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Keller Regional Gifted Center in Mount Greenwood.  

The property is largely used for youth soccer programs and will likely add lacrosse after a rehab.

"Most principals have been through this before," said Chicago Public Schools CEO Forrest Claypool.

If teachers were to strike this year, they would likely walk off in mid-October, according to reports.

The meeting comes amid talk on social media about a plan to restructure schools in the 19th Ward.

"We have a very generous proposal on the table," CPS CEO Forrest Claypool said.

Routes will be added to two more schools, bringing the total number to 142, officials said.

CPS implemented a revamped black history curriculum in 2013, but more needs to be done, some said.

The new school in East Side will help with overcrowding in the area, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.
