St. Pascal Church

The work is expected to take three to four weeks, school officials said.

Cardinal Francis George took one last trip home to St. Pascal's Church in Portage Park.

George grew up in a bungalow in the 6100 block of West Byron Avenue, not far from St. Pascal's.

Francis George was the pride and joy of St. Pascal's in Portage Park.

Opponents left fliers opposing the plan to transform the convent on cars near St. Pascal's Church.

Christina Bowman will become a curriculum coordinator for Des Plaines School District 62.

The plan drew fire from nearby residents who said the home would threaten the church and school.

The three-part mission will take place at Our Lady of Victory.

The second annual event will take place from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday.

St. Pascal was founded in 1914 when Portage Park neighborhood was mostly prairie.  

"Six women and their little babies are not going to pose a problem," the Portage Park pastor said. 

George marked the 100th anniversary of St. Pascal Parish and 50th years since he joined the priesthood.
