Kayla Martinez is a general assignment reporting intern at DNAinfo. Born in Chicago and raised in the Northwest neighborhood of Hermosa, she now attends the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying Journalism and Communications. In Champaign, she writes and copy edits for the Features section of The Daily Illini and for Champaign’s alternative radio station, WPGU 107.1.

Fun Fact: In high school, Kayla became the news editor for the school paper and swore that she could never do journalism in real life. Her freshman year of college, she took the introductory course and said she could never do anything else.
