LOGAN SQUARE — A 27-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a driver in Logan Square Saturday evening, police said.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, the woman was walking in the 2600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue when she was struck by a woman driving a Nissan Armada, according to police.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find the 27-year-old victim "pinned underneath" the car. The woman was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where she is currently listed in critical condition.

The driver — Norma Valladares, 36, of the 2500 block of North Harding Avenue — told police that she struck the woman while trying to make a left turn.

Valladares was issued three citations: operating a car without insurance, driving without a license and hitting a pedestrian in a roadway.

State's attorney's office representative Tandra Simonton couldn't immediately say if Valladares would face more serious charges.

Detectives with the major accidents unit are investigating.
