RAVENSWOOD MANOR — When Baker Miller closed its Ravenswood Manor shop, owner Dave Miller teased that "a friend came to us with a fantastic offer on that space."

Now we know who the friend is: Aaron Steingold, of Steingold's of Chicago deli, which recently debuted in North Center at 1840 W. Irving Park Road.

Steingold and his wife Elizabeth Abowd plan to open a scaled-down, walk-up service version of the deli, dubbed Steingold's Station, by the end of November, at 4642 N. Francisco Ave.

"Well, the cat's out of the bag," Steingold posted to Instagram after the Tribune broke the news.

Opening multiple locations was always part of the plan, but not necessarily so quickly, Steingold told DNAinfo via email.

The Francisco location was hard to pass up, in part because Steingold and Abowd live in the Manor, he said.

But the primary catalyst behind the move, he said, is that after less than two months in operation, Steingold's has already outgrown its original kitchen.

"We have been severely limited by kitchen space the Irving Park location. The Francisco space allows us to support the Irving location and greatly increase our productivity for catering orders," with Steingold's launching a full catering menu in the next two weeks, Steingold said.

Steingold's Station will offer a "tiny, yet thoughtfully curated walk-up restaurant" — soup and sandwiches to-go — likely with the same hours as its big sibling, he said.

Though there won't be seating inside the Station, Steingold said he plans to take advantage of the Francisco shop's rear patio come spring and summer.

"We will be planting a large and bountiful garden in the back and will most definitely have seating in the rear and on the sidewalk," he said.
