LOGAN SQUARE — Pipeworks Brewing Co. is looking to open its first brewpub in Logan Square.
The brewery has its sights set on a castlelike building at 2614-20 N. California Ave., just a few doors down from cozy Mexican restaurant Mi Tocaya.
Owners Gerrit Lewis and Beejay Oslon need a zoning change to make their proposal a reality, which requires approval from 32nd Ward Ald. Scott Waguespack and neighbors.
A community meeting is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2840 W. Logan Blvd.
Founded in 2012, Pipeworks brews out of a facility on the western edge of Logan Square at 3912 W. McLean Ave.
The brewery has steadily grown over the years, opening a bottle shop last year and a pop-up taproom at Emporium Logan Square's event space earlier this year. At the pop-up, Kate Brankin, director of marketing and brewer, gave no indication that Pipeworks was looking to open a brewpub or a taproom.
"We're always talking about it, but there's no immediate plans. It's something that down the road we'd love to do," Brankin said at the time.
Brankin was reached late Monday, but declined to answer questions.
"No further comments at this time. More details are on their way. We are looking forward to working with our neighbors to develop something special," Brankin said in an email.
Not to be confused with a taproom, a brewpub typically serves food in addition to beer, but doesn't package or distribute its own beer.
