Burglars Hit West Loop Businesses And Construction Sites On Near West Side

NEAR WEST SIDE — Burglars have struck construction sites and businesses on the Near West Side over the past month, Chicago police said Tuesday.

In four incidents in September, police said a black man 25- to 40 years old has broken into businesses as early as 1 p.m. in the West Loop.

Those burglaries took place on:

• The 900 block of West Washington Boulevard between 5 p.m. Sept. 2 and noon Sept. 3.

• The 0-100 block of North Peoria Street at 1:08 p.m. Sept. 8.

• The 300 block of North May Street between 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 and 6:45 a.m. Sept. 21.

• The 300 block of South Green Street at 6 p.m. Sept. 22.

The alleged burglar is described as between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-2, 150 to 165 pounds and having short, black hair and a medium complexion.

Police recommend keeping store perimeters well lit, updating security video equipment and keeping doors and windows secure.

Farther west, a lone burglar damaged property at two residential developments in early September, police said Tuesday.

The first incident between 11:30 p.m. and 12:10 a.m. Sept. 1 in the 100 block of North Hoyne Avenue.

The burglar struck again at 11:45 p.m. Sept. 4 in the 2000 block of West Maypole Avenue.

The offender was described as wearing a black shirt and black pants. No other description was available.
