CHICAGO — An armored truck driver shot a man who tried to rob him with a sledgehammer in Little Village on Saturday, officials said.

At 9:30 a.m., the driver mas making a delivery in the 4300 block of West 26th Street and got out of the truck while carrying a bag, according to an FBI news release. That's when a man in reflective clothing hit the driver with a sledgehammer and tried to rob the driver, the FBI said.

The driver shot the man and he ran away, the FBI said.

The man was spotted in a car at a nearby intersection and was taken into custody, the FBI said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The driver suffered "life-altering" wounds, the FBI said.
