WICKER PARK — A cafe and lounge with cozy wingback leather chairs and flooded with natural sunlight opened last Friday in Wicker Park, about a block south of Filter.

Part of The Den Theater at 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave., Haven Lounge is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and on Thursday through Saturday nights when there are performances at the adjacent performance space, according to cafe manager Mike Mazzocca.

Named for The Den Theater owner Ryan Martin's daughter, Haven Lounge initially soft opened as an evenings-only bar two years ago but had a slow start and was not fully completed — in fact one of its walls was previously just a curtain, Mazzocca said during a tour on Tuesday.

The lounge offers 30 seats.

Haven Lounge pours West Town-based Dark Matter Coffee and offers Goddess and Grocer salads and sandwiches, including a $6 Truffle Grilled Cheese.

For those interested in "day drinking," bar manager Tim McMillan says he's crafted some coffee-based cocktails to augment the beer, spirits and wines served at night when the space becomes packed with theater-goers visiting before and after shows and during intermission.

For desserts, there are big slices of The Goddess and Grocer's signature rainbow cake.

Eater first reported Haven Lounge's entry into Wicker Park.
