CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department will look for potential new officers during open houses on the Near West Side — and it's touting a $72,510 salary.

Those who go to the open houses will be able to meet members of the department, including police dogs and SWAT team members, according to a poster for the open houses. Officers will talk about opportunities in the department, give demonstrations, show their equipment and give safety tips.

Starting salary for officers is $48,078, but that jumps to $72,510 after 1½ years.

The open houses will be held 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 7 at 1300 W. Jackson Blvd. Applicants must be at least 20 years old by the end of the year. Those who are interested can apply online.

Applications will be accepted until Oct. 16, and the test to become an officer will be held the weekend of Dec. 16.
