CHICAGO — A man who was shot and dropped off at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse at 26th and California on Friday has died, officials said.

At 11:12 a.m., the man, 28, got into an argument with someone and then got into a car driven by a woman to leave, police said. The man and woman were in the 3100 block of South Rockwell Street when someone in another car fired shots at them.

The man was hit multiple times throughout his body, and the woman took him to the 2600 block of South California Avenue, where someone called 911, police said.

An ambulance took the man to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Kenneth Williams, of an unknown home address, was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m., according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. An autopsy showed he died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.

Police tape was draped over the steps of the courthouse and on the sidewalk after the shooting. The black car the victim was in had its front, passenger-side window shot out. Two more bullet holes could be seen in the back, passenger door, near where the man had been sitting.

No one was in custody.

The man was a documented gang member, a police source said.

In March, a 21-year-old man was shot a block away from the courthouse.
