Sheridan 'L' Stop Assault Charges Announced Against Edgewater Man

LAKEVIEW — A 22-year-old Edgewater man was arrested within hours of police circulating surveillance footage of an attack on the Sheridan "L" station platform last week.

Adolfo Onofre, 22, of the 5800 block of North Kenmore Ave., was arrested Aug. 2, mere hours after police released footage depicting an alleged attack July 8 that left a 49-year-old man with a broken eye socket and pelvis.

Onofre is charged with aggravated battery and accused of pushing the victim down the steep stairs leading up to the platform. Police said the attacker then followed the victim and repeatedly kicked him in the head.

Police said it took one hour to identify Onofre as the suspected assailant after circulating still images from the CTA surveillance footage.
