CHICAGO — After a complete overhaul, the Damen Avenue entrance to the Illinois Medical District Blue Line station reopened Monday, officials announced.

During the closure, the Damen Avenue entrance received upgrades to make it more accessible for CTA riders, including additional lighting, more security cameras, a reconstructed station-to-platform ramp and a CTA Bus and a new train tracker display.

The Damen entrance work was part of the Chicago Transit Authority's $23 million renovation at the station, which will also include upgrades to the Ogden and Paulina station entrances. The Ogden and Paulina entrances are expected to temporarily close on July 28 for renovations, CTA officials said.

The IMD station serves more than 29,000 employees and 50,000 daily visitors to the Illinois Medical District and nearby Malcolm X College and the United Center.

The Damen Avenue entrance temporarily closed for work in mid-May.

Opened nearly 60 years ago, the IMD Station is the fourth-busiest station on the Blue Line Forest Park branch with more than 1 million station entries last year.
