WICKER PARK — A self-storage chain will be making a big entry into Wicker Park on Thursday, offering 1,200 units in a shopping mall just north of the CTA Blue Line Division stop.
Over the weekend, construction workers were readying the four-story building at 1279 N. Milwaukee Ave., next to Mattress Firm, in the Wicker Commons Shopping Mall.
Jeff Norman, a spokesman for Extra Space Storage, said the new outpost, the chain's 30th in the Chicago area, will open Thursday.
Elsewhere in the city, the nearest Extra Space Storage locations are at 2100 W. Fullerton Ave. in Bucktown and 1242 Washington Blvd. in the West Loop.
The massive 86,000-square-foot spot will be home to 1,200 storage units, ranging in size from 3-foot-by 3-foot lockers to 10-foot-by-30-foot rooms, Norman said.
Rates have not yet been posted on the new location's website, but Norman said depending on the size of the unit, monthly rents will range from $30 to $400.
Extra Storage is based in Salt Lake City, Utah and recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, according to a news release.
