LOGAN SQUARE — A man has been charged with sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl in a Logan Square grocery store Monday afternoon, police said.

Rene Carrasquillo, 45, of the 2000 block of North Campbell Avenue, has been charged with misdemeanor battery, according to police.

At a court hearing Thursday, he was given a bond of $25,000 by Cook County Judge John Anthony Calabrese.

The crime happened around 3:45 p.m. Monday.

Police said the girl was in a grocery store in the 3600 block of West Fullerton Avenue — the block where Tony's Finer Foods is located — when Carrasquillo came up to her and squeezed her buttocks.

A relative of the girl confronted Carrasquillo, who then ran away, according to police.

Police issued an alert early Tuesday evening and was able to arrest Carrasquillo a few hours later.

Officers responded to a call of a person wanted in the 2000 block of North Campbell Avenue around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday and arrived to find Carrasquillo, who matched the surveillance photo of the attacker.

He was arrested without incident, according to police.

Carrasquillo is scheduled to appear in court July 21 at Branch 29-2, 2452 W. Belmont Ave.

Police said his mug shot was not immediately available because he was charged with a misdemeanor.
