NEAR WEST SIDE — A 25-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting on the Near West Side Thursday.

At about 2:58 p.m. Thursday, the 25-year-old man was shot in the head in the 200 block of South Western Avenue, Chicago Police said.

The victim transported himself to Stroger Hospital where he was in critical condition Thursday afternoon.

Adam's Food and Liquors, a liquor store that is located on the block at 219 S. Western Ave., was roped off with crime scene tape and police officers were seen standing outside the shop Thursday afternoon, according to a photo a neighbor posted to Facebook.

Chicago Police could not immediately confirm if the shooting happened in or around the liquor store and did not have more information about the shooting Thursday.

In 2013, former Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd) worked to close Adam Food and Liquors, but the shop remained open.

There have been a rash of shootings in the area, including on June 18, when three people were shot in the 200 block of South Western Avenue, according to police.
