CHICAGO — A Federal Bureau of Investigation SUV was stolen with guns and tactical gear inside after the driver, a FBI employee, left it running in the West Loop early Monday, police said.

At about 1 a.m. Monday, the man was in the 300 block of South Morgan Street when he left his car for a moment while keeping the engine on, Chicago police said. A man or boy got into the car and drove away.

The vehicle, a white 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, was an FBI vehicle that contained several firearms and tactical gears, including a ballistic vest, confirmed John Althen, FBI spokesman.

The driver was not injured, police said.

No one was in custody, but the FBI is working closely with Chicago Police and other law enforcement partners as the investigation into the incident continues, Althen said.

Anyone with information about the stolen SUV or its contents should contact the FBI or Chicago police.
