WEST LOOP — Jaks Tap, a staple in the West Loop for more than 20 years, is closing its doors this week.

Owners of the bar and restaurant at 901 W. Jackson Blvd., a favorite stop for Blackhawks fans, announced on Facebook that they made the "very tough" decision to close after almost 22 years in business. The bar will close for good on Friday.

"Thank you for all your support and friendship over the years, as we couldn't have done it without you, and from all of us here at Jaks, we are wishing for your good health and happiness in the years to come," they wrote.

Owners ended the note by urging bar regulars to come visit one last time this week.

"We would be thrilled to see you this week before we close the doors for good on Friday night, and now would be a great time to pick up all those leftover credit cards and umbrellas," the Facebook post read. "Joking aside, we would love to see you again. We wish you well and hope that our paths will cross again soon."

Reacting to the news, one customer wrote on Facebook that she would truly miss the bar.

"Though I do not see you as often, I will truly miss you as one of the first who helped you 'open' and welcome you to the neighborhood! Thank you for all of the good food, drink, camaraderie, and memories," she wrote.

James Krogh, owner of Jaks Tap, and manager Michael McGuinness talked to DNAinfo in 2013 about the neighborhood bar's success.

"We like to take good care of people, and I think it really shows," McGuinness said at the time. "People say this place is like Cheers a lot because we know our customers and we know each others names."
