NEAR WEST SIDE — Near West Side neighbors will meet to review plans for a $2 million renovation of Medical District Apartments at a development meeting Tuesday night. 

Neighbors will discuss the renovation project at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, 1431 W. Taylor St. The meeting is hosted by Connecting 4 Communities and free parking is available in a lot behind the hall.  

Guggenheim Real Estate, Atlantic Realty Partners and Focus Development plan to renovate the 410 existing apartments at the Medical District Apartments at 901 S. Ashland Ave., now called SCIO at The Medical District

The renovation is part of a larger $111 million project that will also see 500 new apartments built in two 12-story towers at the 5.65-acre site along Ashland Avenue between Polk and Taylor streets, close to the Medical District and University of Illinois at Chicago campus.

A series of other projects will also be presented at the meeting. Related Midwest and the Chicago Housing Authority will present new plans for Taylor and Grenshaw streets, St. Ignatius officials will present plans for the old YMCA site at 1001 W. Roosevelt Road and the National Public Housing Museum will present plans for the museum on Taylor Street.
