#TBT: Logan Square Masonic Temple's Stone-Laying Ceremony Circa 1921

By Mina Bloom | May 25, 2017 2:31pm

LOGAN SQUARE — For #ThrowbackThursday, check out the stone-laying ceremony for the Logan Square Masonic Temple circa 1921.

The old photo, taken Oct. 1, 1921, shows people gathered at the foundation of the Logan Square Masonic Temple at Kedzie and Albany avenues — now Armitage Baptist Church — for a stone-laying ceremony. The building ended up looking like this.

Here's what Logan Square Preservation has to say about the photo:

The laying of the corner stone at the Logan Square Masonic Temple, (today Armitage Baptist Church) at the corner of Kedzie and Albany, October 1, 1921. The building's architect, Clarence Hatzfeld, is seated in the front row on the right hand side, the only man wearing a bow tie. This photo is part of a great set documenting the buildings by Hatzfeld, owned by his great granddaughter. She is donating them to the Chicago Public Library Special Collections.

DNAinfo is partnering with Logan Square Preservation on a "Throwback Thursday" post each week. All photos are the property of Logan Square Preservation unless otherwise indicated.
