LINCOLN SQUARE — Opart Thai's original Lincoln Square location remains closed for a second week after failing yet another health inspection.
The restaurant's license was initially suspended May 16 when city inspectors observed a number of "high-risk" violations, including cockroaches crawling on the kitchen's walls and floors.
Management posted a note stating that the restaurant, 4658 N. Western Ave., was closed for maintenance and would reopen May 19.
On the 19th, Opart failed a follow-up inspection. This time, the city's representative gained access to a previously blocked furnace room and found "evidence of rodents" — either mice or rat droppings — "all throughout floor at corners of this room under and around furnace equipment. This furnace room is located directly along the rear dry storage room," according to the inspection report.
A sign taped to Opart's door now says the restaurant is closed "until further notice."
An employee at Opart's West Town location said, "I have no idea when we will be reopened."
