COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Fidel Urbina, who was on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list, has been returned to Chicago after officials said he spent nearly two decades "on the run."

Urbina was returned to Chicago on Tuesday night. Once the target of what the FBI called a "worldwide manhunt," Urbina has been charged with the murder and rape of one woman and the beating and rape of another woman.

Urbina was also charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, according to the FBI.

In March 1998, Urbina was charged with kidnapping, beating and raping a woman in the city, according to the FBI. In October of that year, Urbina, who was out on bond and living in Little Village at the time, was suspected in the rape and murder of Gabriella Torres, 22, officials said.

Torres' body was found in the trunk of a car that had been set on fire in the 2300 block of West 50th Street.

Officials were unable to find Urbina after that slaying, according to the FBI, and a federal warrant was issued for him in July 1999.

A Cook County judge in April 2006 issued a warrant for Urbina on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, kidnapping, unlawful restraint and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, court records show.

Urbina is expected to appear in bond court Thursday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse, 2650 S. California Ave.

Urbina was placed on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list in June 2012, and he was taken into custody in Chihuahua, Mexico, on Sept. 22, 2016.
