LOGAN SQUARE — Out with pho, in with sushi rolls.

Gorilla Sushi took over the former Banh Mi Baget spot at 2735 N. Milwaukee Ave. and quietly opened to the public Friday.

It's the fourth outpost for Gorilla, which runs restaurants in Jefferson Park, Uptown and Lakeview.

Owner Ed Pheomthawee said he chose Logan Square because of its proximity to popular neighborhoods like Bucktown.

"It's going to be great business here," he said.

The menu is simplicity at its finest; every item costs $2.95, from salads to sushi rolls. Like the 100 yen menus in Japan, the tapas-like list of offerings gives customer a chance to try more.

The restaurant chain was originally called Godzilla Sushi, but Pheomthawee was forced to change the name after the company behind the Japanese movies Godzilla threatened to sue. Godzilla means "gorilla whale" in Japanese.

Once shut down for health code violations, Banh Mi Baget closed in the fall without warning.

Gorilla Sushi Logan Square is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. before reopening from 5-10 p.m., staying open an hour later on Fridays and Saturdays.
